In 1969, ontdekte Olney letsel aan de hypothalamus, en beschreef een belemmering in de groei, zwaarlijvigheid, en onvruchtbaarheid bij vrouwen. Eveneens werd een groot aantal geobserveerde pathologische veranderingen gevonden in diverse delen van de hersenen die een verbinding hadden met de endocrine functies bij volwassen muizen, die als pasgeborenen monosodium glutamaat hadden gekregen. Langdurige onderzoeken, waaronder onderzoeken over het voeren, waarbij pasgeborenen/baby proefdieren hoeveelheden monosodium glutaminaat (MSG) kregen toegediend en gedurende maanden of jaren geobserveerd werden voordat ze voor hersenonderzoek opgeofferd werden, bevestigden de eerdere bevinding van Dr. Olney. Al in 1980 waren de bewijzen, dat monosodium glutaminaat hersenletsel veroorzaakte zo goed onderbouwd dat onderzoekers die geinteresseerd waren in de werking van de hersenen en/of de ontwikkeling van geneesmiddelen, deze stof bij hun onderzoek gingen gebruiken. Zij begonnen monosodium glutaminaat te gebruiken als een byzonder middel waarmee bepaalde hersencellen konden worden gedood, zodat ziekteverschijnselen waarbij glutaminezuur een rol speelde nader bestudeerd konden worden.

Op dit moment bestaat er grote bezorgdheid over een van de pathologische veranderingen die volgen uit de hersenbeschadigingen die veroorzaakt worden door het gebruik van monosodium glutaminaat, namelijk uitgesproken zwaarlijvigheid. Te veel eten, ongeschikt dieet, junk food, onvoeldoende lichaamsbeweging, psychologische problemen, erfelijkheidsproblemen, en slecht ouderschap worden allemaal aangevoerd als onderliggende oorzaak van uitgesproken zwaarlijvigheid. Maar nooit worden glutaminezuur in monosodium glutaminaat en asparaginezuur dat voorkomt in aspartaam in dit verband genoemd, die er om bekend staan de oorzaak te zijn van zwaarlijvigheid bij proefdieren. Glutaminezuur en asparaginezuur zijn in bouw gelijk die dezelfde receptoren (in het zenuwstelsel) belasten en gelijksoortige hersenbeschadigingen en neuroendocrine stoornissen veroorzaken. Het is ook bekend dat ze elkaars werking versterken.

Er is geen twijfel mogelijk dat verwerkt vrij glutaminezuur (MSG) bij proefdieren hersenletsel veroorzaakt en de daaruit volgende neuroendocrine stoornissen, waaronder zwaarlijvigheid. Onderzoeken hebben aangetoond dat vrij glutaminezuur (en ook verwerkt vrij glutaminezuur [MSG]) de placenta, (A-B) de bloed hersen barriere (BBB) en de vijf circelvormige kanalen, die op zijn minst lekkage vertonen in iedere levensfase, op een ongecontroleerde manier kunnen passeren gedurende de zwangerschap en de ontwikkeling. (C-E) Bovendien wordt de bloed brein barriere gemakkelijk beschadigd door koorts, beroerte, trauma aan het hoofd, attaque's, de opname van verwerkt vrij glutaminezuur, en het normale verouderings proces. (E-F) Het wordt algemeen aangenomen dat vanwege de grotere doorlaatbaarheid van de bloed brein barriere, kinderen in het bijzonder gevaar lopen door de opname van MSG.

Er is geen twijfel mogelijk dat (ook in Nederland) ongeborenen, pasgeborenen, zuigelingen en kinderen, worden bloot gesteld aan steeds groter wordende hoeveelheden MSG.

In de baarmoeder krijgen kinderen al MSG door het dieet van de moeder. (A-B) In de eerste levensmaand krijgen babies MSG door de moedermelk als de moeder MSG gebruikt (dit is nauwelijks te vermijden als moeder kant en klare voeding gebruikt) of door de babyvoeding die allemaal MSG bevatten. De grootste hoeveelheid MSG in babyvoeding bevindt zich in "hypo-allergene" babyvoeding.

Samenvatting: Gehydrolyseerde babyvoeding van koemelkeiwit verscheen in 1940 op de markt met het doel de overgevoeligheid voor koemelk-eiwit te verminderen of teniet te doen. Op dit moment, is de zogenaamde "hypo-allergene" babyvoeding ontwikkeld. Het gebruik van zulke gehydrolyseerde babyvoeding is gebaseerd op de veronderstelling dat vooraf verwerkte eiwitten, als eiwitten en in samenstelling van eiwitten, zorgen voor voedingsstoffen en een niet-antigene vorm. Zodoende wordt gehydrolyseerde babyvoeding geclassificeerd als hypoallergeen. Deze babyvoeding wordt door verhitting en enzymatische hydrolyse verwerkt, zodanig dat de aanpassing en opeenvolgende structuren min of meer worden veranderd. De babyvoeding bevat vooraf verwerkte eiwitten van een minder molekuulgewicht, dan de natuurlijke eiwitbron, waarvan wordt verondersteld dat het het immuunsysteem minder vatbaar maakt.

Gehydrolyseerde babyvoeding blijkt voldoende voeding te bevatten en zuigelingen komen meestal aan in gewicht tot ze de babyvoeding weigeren vanwege de slechte smaak. Er moet echter voorzichtigheid betracht worden wanneer zulke babyvoeding gedurende langere perioden wordt gegeven omdat er geen gegevens bekend zijn over de voedingswaarde bij kinderen die gedurende verschillende maanden uitsluitend gevoed werden met gehydrolyseerde babyvoeding. In dit artikel rapporteren en bespreken we meer dan 202 reacties op verschillende soorten gehydrolyseerde babyvoeding, waaronder gevallen van anaphylactische shock, een levensbedreigende allergische reactie. De reactie tussen verschillende soorten gehydrolyseerde babyvoeding en koemelkeiwitten, en de mogelijkheid van dit soort babyvoeding om een immuun response te veroorzaken zijn besproken. We komen tot de conclusie dan geen van de soorten gehydrolyseerde babyvoeding allergie veroorzaakt, zowel bij allergische kinderen als voor de groep babies met een hoog risico. We stellen bovendien voor dat er dubbel blinde onderzoeken komen die d.m.v. placebo controle de voeding testen bij grote groepen babies, waarbij duidelijk omschreven, geldige diagnostische methoden een betrouwbaarder beeld geven hoe vaak allergie bij gehydrolyseerde babyvoeding voorkomt.

Pasgeboren kinderen krijgen ook te maken met MSG door de inentingen. Alle levende virus vaccins, en sommige, zo niet alle andere, bevatten MSG. Het MSG in vaccins bevind zich kenmerkend in een of meer van de grondstoffen, waarvan niet duidelijk is dat ze MSG bevatten. Tot 1978 kregen kinderen MSG toegediend in die kleine flesjes voeding die we "baby voeding" noemen. Na 10 jaar onder druk zetten van de fabrikanten door bezorgde wetenschappers en ouders, werd MSG "vrijwillig" uit de "babyvoeding" verwijderd. Maar op 7 januari 1998, keurde de EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) het gebruik van verwerkte vrije glutaminezuur (MSG) goed in bestrijdingsmiddelen en groei versterkers (geur en smaak). Fruit, graan, noten, zaden en groenten die met deze producten zijn behandeld kunnen nu in babyvoeding worden gebruikt, zonder bekend te hoeven maken dat het product MSG bevat, of met MSG is behandeld.

Veel snacks (fastfood), en voeding met weinig of geen vet en bewerkte voeding bevatten vrij glutaminezuur (MSG). Soep in blik dat door grote bedrijven wordt verkocht en dingen zoals kant en klare spaghetti of noodles zitten meestal ook stampvol MSG. De dingen die onze kinderen op school kunnen krijgen bij hun lunches zijn zeer twijfelachtig -- ze bevatten waarschijnlijk meer MSG dan de lunches die door de school worden verzorgd.

Sommigen van ons die gevoelig zijn voor de zenuwgif aminozuren: glutaminezuur, asparaginezuur en L-cysteine, vechten al jaren tegen de macht van de glutamaat en aspartaam industrie. Diegenen onder ons die overgevoelig zijn voor bewerkt vrije glutaminezuur (MSG) vragen alleen dat MSG niet verborgen wordt in voeding, geneesmiddelen, cosmetica en dieet producten. We hebben het gevraagd en we hebben gezien hoe onze verzoeken werden behandeld. We hebben gezien hoe de industrie macht heeft over de regering van de VS en hoe de industrie de media beheerst. We weten dat omdat Ajinomoto Co., Inc. de grootste producent is van bewerkt vrij glutaminezuur en het ingredient "monosodium glutaminaat" jaarlijks miljoenen dolars uitgeeft om mensen in de wereld te misleiden, om te geloven dat MSG "veilig" is, zal er niemand in de wetgevende macht zijn, bij de FDA, de Nationale Gezondheidsdienst, of bij het Centrum voor ziekte onderzoek; en er zal geen enkele beambte bij het Amerikaanse Medisch Genootschap, of de Amerikaanse Vereniging van Dietisten of de pers die ook maar een toespeling zal maken dat MSG de oorsprong zou kunnen zijn van zwaarlijvigheid, of er zelfs maar aan zou bijdragen.

Toen deze pagina werd geschreven zochten we toegang via internet tot de Medline database via de Nationale Medische Bibliotheek (www.pubmed.gov). Wij zochten naar onderzoeken met gebruikmaking van de zoekwoorden "zwaarlijvigheid en monosodium glutaminaat," en we kregen 143 verwijzingen (1-143). Ze staan onder dit artikel. U zult opmerken dat de onderzoeken die aangeven dat MSG hersenletsel veroorzaakt en vervolgens zwaarlijvigheid, in het algemeen werden gedaan in de vroege tachtiger jaren. Latere onderzoeken gebruiken glutaminezuur als onderzoek instrument. Samenvattingen van MSG letsel verlagen het lichaamsgewicht van zogende ratten door het verminderen van etmaal verminderen van energie uitgifte en de bijwerkingen na de geboorte van toediening van monosodium glutaminaat op de insuline werking bij volwassen ratten worden hier bij wijze van toelichting toegevoegd. U zult opmerken dat het allemaal dier onderzoeken zijn. In de Verenigde Staten experimenteren we gewoonlijk niet met giftige stoffen op mensen.
